SOUTHERN KADUNA PEOPLE’S UNION (SOKAPU) TOWN HALL MEETING ON RESTRUCTURING

Restructuring simply refers to change the basic organization or structure of something. Restructuring has become one of the most popular languages used in the Nigerian political world today. Many politicians and enlightened citizens are calling on the federal government to restructure the country as it would help to move the country forward both economically and socially.

Several years after the amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates in 1914 by Lord Lugard, there are still strong and persistent agitations by some interest groups in the polity demanding for the immediate restructuring of the existing political arrangement in Nigeria; SOKAPU is one of those interest groups in Kaduna State Nigeria demanding for the creation GURARA State.

Southern Kaduna comprises of 12 Local government areas in the State, namely; Kaduna South, Chikun, Kajuru, Kagarko, Kachia, Jaba, Zango Kataf, Kaura, Jamma, Kauru and Sanga.

It will interest you to know that, 99 % of elected political members representing the above mentioned local government areas right from state to federal level were missing at the restructuring town hall meeting. I began to ask myself, is our elected representatives really aware of the meeting? Are they really in support of the restructuring? Do they really have the region at heart or just fighting for their personal interest? I think something is wrong somewhere.

The second group of people that were also missing at the town hall meeting was the “vibrate social media youths of the region” majority of them were not to be found, the hall was storm by our parents. With this attitude, can the youth able to handle the mantle of the leadership when tomorrow comes? Are we really the leaders of tomorrow?

Hon. Timothy Gandu in his keynote address, he justified his presentation with facts and figures of population/polling unit/polling unit per LGAs in Kaduna State and Nigeria atlarge on why the state needs restructuring.
