Barely 24hrs after the launching of the shambolic “The Kafanchan Peace Declaration” by Gov. Nasiru el-Rufai of Kaduna State at the installation of Agwatyap in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area (LGA), terror again struck in Southern Kaduna by suspected Fulani herdsmen in continuation of the systemic genocide going on in the area.

The angels of death were said to have struck around 8:00pm local time in a coordinated attack on 5 Villages of Kigam, Angwan Magaji, Angwan Rimi, Kitakum and Kikpene Chawai, all In Kamaru Ward of Tsam (Chawai) Chiefdom, Kauru LGA, Kaduna State. The number of casualties is yet to be ascertained though some eyewitnesses said the attack claimed over 30 lives, mainly women and children, apart from the injured, with entire villages burnt to the ground and farm produce destroyed.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that gunshot continued throughout the night till dawn. Reports have it that only 4 soldiers were deployed to the area with neither police nor any other patrol force deployed by the authorities after several distress calls. As it stands, there’s palpable tension around the adjoining communities of Ganawuri hills, Chori in Moroa Chiefdom, Kizachi Chiwo, Kikpene-Kigam and Kishisho communities.

Some weeks ago, some Southern Kaduna traditional rulers are alleged to have signed a peace pact with the Miyatti Allah cattle breeders in the area aimed at putting a halt to the killings in Southern Kaduna. Because the pact was signed is secret without wide consultation, most residents were already skeptical about the success of the deal. The recent happenings, just a day after the deal was made official, appears to have vindicated the skeptics.

This is the second attack in 3 week in the area, apart from the infamous Godogodo episodes and many other attacks in recent weeks, yet the governor who once denied the occurrence of such attacks could do nothing but raise billboards.
