Increasing Seismic Activities in Nigeria, Africa
This is taking place just few months after earth tremor sacked hundreds of household in Ikara town in Kaduna State and even parts of the main Kaduna city.
It is pertinent to note that in years past, Nigeria had been classified as a region outside major seismic zones as the area is dormant or extinct, but with these developments the fears expressed are genuine. In fact, a more recent research has shown that by 2020-25, if adequate measures are not taken, Nigeria would start to experience earthquakes on a more regular basis, although it is not seated on any fault lines.
In July, 2016 Bayelsa and Rivers States had an earthquake tremor that threw the states in utter confusion. There is need for the Centre for Geodesy and Geodynamics (CGG) to be well equipped with the latest digital state of the art equipments to be able to monitor such natural disaster in other to mitigate the impact thereof.
Few days ago, an earthquake with magnitude of 5.9 and depth of 40Km below the earth surface was recorded between Rwanda and Uganda transmitting more signals to the entire continent.
