VENUE: GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL, NARAYI, KADUNA.
TIME: 2PM

BACKGROUND
As an outcome of the Exco meeting held on the 30th May, 2016, and in the light of the negative political and economic realities that confront the Akurmi youth; the need for a youth led interactive forum has become imperative. In view of the foregoing, a one day stakeholder’s consultative forum is slated to hold on the 12th June, 2016 at Narayi, Kaduna. These is an initiative of Akurmi youth, by the youth and for the youth to discuss on our challenges, proffers practical solutions and strategize actionable steps in liberating us from the political and economic shackles we find ourselves today.

Politically, the Akurmi youth has been left in the wilderness without a roadmap out of this unfortunate situation. The political space in the area of participation has been narrowed down. We are overlooked in terms of elective and appointive positions; also we are not supported when we aspire to contest elective positions, even though we are qualified due to the large number of Akurmi youth pursuing academic excellence. Our youth are only used as political machineries during elections and abandoned afterwards. They are also divided along political, religious, clan and other cleavages, so that they become incapacitated to agitate for their common interest. Majority of our youth today in politics are turned in sycophants, beggars, praise-singer, gossipers and professional riggers for survival due to lack of political empowerment.

Economically, the Akurmi youth, a majority of who are educated, are wallowing in poverty due to lack of empowerment and opportunities. They are barely supported to seek education, after acquiring the certificate they are left to wander with envelops after which they settle for menial jobs. For those that are unable to further their academic pursuit they are left with productive vocational skills, funding to start business and finance to lucratively engage in farming activities. This has left our youth open to political and economic exploitation.

This stakeholder’s forum seeks to reexamine the above challenges and then aggregate the opinion and input of the Akurmi in coming out with a political and economic roadmap. It is time to take our destiny into our hands, because it is our future and that of the Akurmi nation that is at stake. The forum seeks to invite National Federated Kurama Youth Association, Other Youth branches, Formers Excos of Youth, Opinion leaders and Akurmi youth in general.
