Gov’t Girls College Zonkwa Gutted by Fire
It appears 2016 is promising to be a year marked by fire disasters in Kaduna State or, at least, we can assume that fire disasters are going to be with the state for a while.
Barely two weeks after the Kaduna Raiway Station Market, famous as the biggest fruits market in Kaduna, and the Education Block of Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya were burnt down by an inferno within less than 12hrs, another major fire incident was reported in Zonkwa, in the southern part of the state.
It was a scene of chaos, panic an confusion as one of the hostel blocks of Government Girls College (GGC), Zonkwa was razed down as students and staff watch helplessly.
Even though the remote cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertain, electrical faults are being suspected. The unfortunate incident happened in the day time while students were in class.
Looking at the frequency and magnitude of these incidences it is very obvious that the Kaduna State Government has to install more precautionary and warning measures in all public places to be able to cope with the fire disasters.
