Court Injunction Forces SOKAPU to Postpone Congress
A court injunction secured by one of Southern Kaduna’s elder statesmen has forced SOKAPU to postpone its congress scheduled for 5th and 6th of February, 2016 indefinitely.
According to the Assistant PRO of the Southern Kaduna peoples’ umbrella body, Reuben Buhari:
“The Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU) regrets to announce to you that the NEC meeting scheduled at Unity Wonderland Hotel, Kafanchan on 5th & 6th February, 2016 is hereby suspended till further notice as a result of a Court Injunction sought & secured by COL. KACHIM BOMAN (RTD) against the said meeting.
“The Union shall remain LAW abiding. The struggle for emancipation has just started, we must join hands to resist the forces of divide and rule and disunity amongst us for the sake of our unborn generation. We want to appeal / call on you to join hands with us and resolute in a situation where some Elders are bent on dividing us.
“You might have written SOKAPU off with good reasons, but the newly elected SOKAPU excos have sworn to do things differently. What we plead is for you to give us the benefit of the doubt.”
The Barrister Solomon Musa lead SOKAPU has inherited and has continued to endure controversies since its emergence on November 30th, 2015.
It will be recalled that SOKAPU has recently been plagued with leadership tussle which deepened when the Care Taker Committee (CTC ) of the union said it would go ahead to conduct the general election of the union against court order restraining the conduct of the election in Kagoro, which was later conducted in Gidan Waya.
Col. Boman Tyokpat Kachim who is the Board of Trustees Chairman of the Union while addressing a press conference sometimes last year noted that “There were also petitions of partisanship against the Electoral Committee, as well as serious irregularities with regard to membership and delegates to the election”.
He added that it was based on these perceived wrongs that the a court injunction was sought for to postponed the election indefinitely in order to address the problem, revealing that SOKAPU has taken both the CTC and BOT to Court, and they had been served court order respectively over the crisis and not to hold on the election, pending the outcome of the case before the court.
