Saminaka Assemblies of God Church & the Shiites Incidences: Any Similarities?

All seem to been settled now  between the warring factions in the Saminaka District of the Assemblies of God Church following the successful hosting of the district’s Women Convention which was graced by the wife of Paul Emeka, the General Superintendent (GS) of the church, Rev Dr. Sharon P. Emeka.

The convention, which started on Friday, 10th December, 2015 climaxed with church service at the Assemblies of God Church Yar’Kasuwa, Saminaka District today lead by the mama herself.

Dr Sharon EmekaIt will be recalled that the Assemblies of God Church was embroiled in a protracted leadership tussle from top to bottom which culminated in the order by the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai, to close down the two Assemblies of God Churches in Nmbare and Jerusalem, the Theological Seminary of Northern Nigeria (TSNN), Shalom Comprehensive College, and Assemblies of God Church Evangelist Hospital, all owned by the church and located in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of the State.

The closure, according to the governor’s media aide was aimed at avoiding the escalation of the conflict brewing between the two factions of the congregations whose leaderships’ positions they described as, “principally to preserve their personal interests with little concern for the common good, and the peace and security of the state”.

Just as the Assemblies of God Church’s crisis seems to have died down another religious crisis, perhaps worse than that of Assemblies of God, has surfaced. Just yesterday there was a confrontation between the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shiites) and the Nigerian Army which led to a gun battle and subsequent lost of lives.

The incident that started yesterday Saturday 12th December, 2015 around Gyallesu, Zaria after an ‘attack’ on the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, who was returning from the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the Nigerian Army Deport, is said to have worsened over the night, with gun shots and blast being heard from that direction till this morning.

Even before now, there have been skirmishes between Shiites and other Muslims groups about a Mosque located around Gyallesu, the stronghold of the Shiites in Zaria. The Shiites claim to be historically linked to the mosque and are bend on reclaiming it by all means.

Looking at the magnitude of the present crisis which claimed the lives of many, Assemblies of God Church’s power tussle seems a child’s play. Surprisingly, two churches, a, hospitals, a seminary and a college, all belonging to the church were all sealed, though no casualties were recorded.
All eyes are now set on the governor to see how he will respond to the present situation. Is he going to shut down the mosque and other properties belonging to the sect? Are they are going to be treated differently? We are watching!!!
