Stand up Kaduna: Amina Mohammed Has No Specific State of Origin
Controversies continue to trail Buhari’s ministerial nominees presented to the Senate on Tuesday 6th October, 2015, as one Amina Mohammed was claimed to have no specific state of origin in Nigeria.
Filing a petition on the floor of the Senate, entitled Objection Against the Nomination of Mrs Amina Mohammed, or Amina Ibrahim as Minister Representing Kaduna State, Senator Danjuma La’ah, the senator representing Kaduna South (Zone 3) of Kaduna State and the only PDP senator from the North-West geopolitical zone made the following revelations:
“The vote and proceedings document (Senate) of Tuesday, carries one Amina Ibrahim (no state of origin was listed) on the list as a ministerial nominee.
“Daily Trust of Wednesday, October 7, carries one Amina Mohammed, Kaduna State, as state of origin, a ministerial nominee.
“Daily Sun of Wednesday, October 7 carries one Amina Mohammed, Gombe State as state of origin, and a ministerial nominee. The above are different sources carrying variations either in names or in the states of origin.
“Be that as it may, I Senator Danjuma La’ah, stand firmly by the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Section 147 Act(3) – which reads in part, ‘Any appointment under subsection (2) of this section by the President shall be in conformity with the provisions of Section 14(3) of the Constitution, provided that in giving effect to the provisions aforesaid, the President shall appoint at least one minister from each state, who shall be an indigene of such state.
“The Daily Trust Page 44 of October 7, a part of Amina Mohammed’s citation reads ‘was born of a Nigerian father from Gombe and a British mother from Wales, she was educated in Nigeria from the age of two in Birnin Kebbi, Kaduna and Maiduguri, before finishing in Isles of Man’.
“It is in the light of above, that I categorically state that I will throw my weight behind scuttling any attempt to impose on the good people of Kaduna State a non-indigene to represent them at the Federal level. “
Sequel to that, this is what Dr. John Danfulani, a Kaduna based human rights advocate has to say:
“… This is the climax of a treachery by Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufa’i. He has this plan at heart hence his famous decree of declaring Kaduna a no-man’s-land. Some of us with long view and futuristic acumen denounced it – and cited various constitutional provisos and identical situations beyond our shores. Cold feet and the state’s senior citizens sealed lips. Now shit has hit the ceiling! My joy is: history has vindicated me.
“Wait a minute, is PMB telling us that there is any man or woman of consequence from Kaduna that he doesn’t know? PMB has operated all his political life from Kaduna. During Goodluck Jonathan’s era she was boss of MDG with her details claiming Gombe. How did she change from Gombe between 29th May, 2015 to Kaduna on 6th October, 2015? Is the change slogan a coded science of domination and impunity by PMB and El-rufa’i? Nobody is saying she has no value to add to PMB’s administration, what we are saying is; why not pick her from her state?”
