Tension, Apprehension as Gov. Rufai Orders Kafanchan Traders to Relocate
There are multiple speculations in recent days that His Excellency, Gov. Nasiru Ahmed El Rufai of Kaduna State has asked all traders occupying the Kaduna State Transport Authority (KSTA) motor park in Kafanchan town to relocate their goods to the new market, popular among residents as ‘Yakowa Market’, which is located along Kagoro-Kafanchan road.
This is seen by feelers as part of the Kaduna State Government’s effort in reclaiming government land and properties hijacked by individuals and groups within the state.
It will be recalled that after the Kafanchan Central Market was completely razed down during the 2011 post election violence where properties worth hundreds of millions, if not billions, naira were completely destroyed, the market was relocated from its former location at the heart of the town by the former governor, Late Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, to the present site hence the name ‘Yakowa Market’. However, some traders who refused to relocate their goods to the new market built their shops on the land that was used as the KSTA central motor park thereby displacing the motor park in the town.
With this new development, a section of the community have shown its disaffection and are seen to be having series of meetings with government officials in the Local Government Area in a bid to persuade government to change her decision. However, Gov. Rufai who appears bent on restoring order and discipline in the state is said not to be bothered.
